The question tells you the answer
Every interview question carries its tense inside the verb. Hear it, and you already know how your answer begins. Choose a question to try it.
The question
Cén fáth ar roghnaigh tú an mhúinteoireacht?
Why did you choose teaching?
An Aimsir Chaitethe past tense
Your answer starts
Roghnaigh mé an mhúinteoireacht mar…
Same verb, same tense. Swap tú for mé and you're already speaking.
The question
Cad a dhéanann tú i d'am saor?
What do you do in your free time?
An Aimsir Láithreachthe present tense
Your answer starts
Déanaim…
Dhéanann tú becomes déanaim. One word does the work of "I do".
The question
Conas a mhúinfidh tú an Ghaeilge i do sheomra ranga?
How will you teach Irish in your classroom?
An Aimsir Fháistineachthe future tense
Your answer starts
Múinfidh mé…
The h in mhúinfidh comes from the little word a in the question, so drop it and add mé. (The conditional is the exception: it keeps its h.)
The question
Cad a dhéanfá dá mbeadh páiste brónach i do rang?
What would you do if a child in your class was sad?
An Modh Coinníollachthe conditional
Your answer starts
Dhéanfainn…
-fá in the question becomes -fainn in your answer. That's the whole trick.
This is one of the strategies we'll practise together, out loud, in the masterclass.
In 45 minutes, you'll learn to
Practical strategies you can use the moment the interview starts, not more grammar to memorise.
-
Recognise tenses in interview questions
Hear the verb, name the tense, and know straight away what shape your answer needs.
-
Build answers without memorising scripts
Use a simple frame you fill with your own experience, so you sound like yourself and can handle a follow-up question.
-
Develop confidence in spoken Irish
Speak during a live, friendly session, so interview day isn't the first time you say your answers out loud.
This class is for you if…
- You freeze when it's spokenYou've studied Irish for years and can read it well, but your mind goes blank when someone asks you a question out loud.
- Your interview is comingYou're applying for primary teaching through Hibernia and want to know what to expect from the Irish interview.
- Scripts keep letting you downYou've learned answers off by heart, and they fall apart the moment the question is worded differently.

Dia duit! I'm Miriam, your tutor
I'm a qualified primary teacher, and I've spent over 15 years helping people speak Irish with confidence, from young pupils to adults starting again.
A big part of my work is supporting aspiring teachers through the TEG (B1) exam and the Hibernia interview. So many of my students understand far more than they can say, and this class is built around closing that gap.
- 15+years teaching
- 1,000+pupils taught

What my students say
I contacted Miriam for help applying for the PME in Primary Teaching for Hibernia. She not only improved my fluency in Irish but she also instilled a love of Irish and a confidence in me. Her kindness and caring nature really helped me achieve my goal.
“Miriam is a natural teacher. She took the time to learn the format of the TEG exam and knew very quickly which areas I needed to work on most. I would highly recommend!”
“I am a college student who was looking for help to study for the B1 oral TEG exam. Miriam helped me so much and was very accommodating to my needs. She is a very patient and helpful tutor.”
“Miriam is an amazing teacher and I've learned so much in just a few lessons. She listens to what you're looking for and provides you with exactly that.”
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There's no cost and no card details. Just register with your name and email.
What level of Irish do I need?
If you're preparing for the Hibernia interview, you're ready. The class is built for people who understand more Irish than they can comfortably say.
How do I join on the day?
After you register, you'll get an email with the link to join live. All you need is a laptop, tablet or phone and a good internet connection.
Will I have to speak?
You'll be invited to try things out loud, because that's where confidence comes from, but you'll never be put on the spot. Join at whatever pace suits you.
Why do you ask how confident I feel?
So I can pitch the class at the right level for the group and make sure it's useful for everyone who comes.
